Every packet of The Mother is a descendant of the same culture. Yours has a number. The certificate puts it on paper: “Descendant #[number] of The Mother, first fed 1736,” in calligraphy, on parchment.
The two foil seals go on the jar. The log goes in the drawer next to it, for the notes that matter later: how much water, which flour, when it went in the oven, how it came out.
